CXC Applications of pnCCD Based Color X-Ray Cameras in Imaging and Spectroscopy

Color X-Ray Cameras (CXC) based on pnCCD detectors support a wide range of X-ray applications by combining imaging with full spectroscopic capability. From hyperspectral XRF imaging (Full Field XRF) and simultaneous XRF–XRD mapping to tomography, diffraction and scattering techniques, these detectors provide flexible solutions for synchrotron beamlines, laboratory setups and OEM instruments requiring advanced energy-dispersive X-ray analysis.

Hyperspectral XRF imaging

Hyperspectral XRF imaging, also known as Full-Field XRF Mapping, with pnCCD based Color X-Ray Cameras (CXC) captures full per-pixel spectra across large areas without mechanical scanning, enabling fast and accurate elemental maps with reduced artefacts.

Simultaneous XRF-XRD Mapping

Simultaneous XRF–XRD mapping combines fluorescence and diffraction data in a single measurement, providing both elemental and crystallographic information and improving accuracy by removing diffraction artefacts from XRF maps.

Energy-dispersive X-ray computed tomography (ED-CT)

Energy dispersive X-ray CT (ED-CT) with pnCCD detectors delivers three-dimensional chemical and structural imaging, combining spectroscopic resolution with tomographic reconstruction for faster, non-destructive analysis.

Polychromatic Small-Angle X-Ray Scattering (SAXS)

Polychromatic SAXS with pnCCD based detectors removes the need for monochromators, allowing simultaneous multi-energy small-angle X-ray scattering measurements with higher flux and shorter acquisition times.

Energy Dispersive X-Ray Diffraction (ED-XRD)

Energy dispersive X-ray diffraction (ED-XRD) provides simultaneous diffraction and spectroscopic information per pixel, enabling rapid phase identification and structural analysis from a single dataset.

Full-field XRF computed tomography (FF-XFCT)

XRF-CT with pnCCD Color X-Ray Cameras reconstructs three-dimensional elemental distributions, delivering non-destructive volumetric fluorescence imaging for materials science, geology and synchrotron applications.

Space and bespoke deployments

The pnCCD sensor and CAMEX readout electronics at the core of the CXC system have a strong heritage in space missions and large-scale research facilities. Proven operation in space and highly customised deployments for facilities such as European XFEL demonstrate robustness and adaptability beyond standard laboratory systems.
